Haroon Kareem has played an active role in the development of the Al-Risalah Education Trust. He was the chair of Balham Masjid Committee and assisted with the opening of the Balham Prep School. He served as chair for Balham Prep/Al-Risalah School since 1993 to 2004. He was appointed the deputy chair for Gatton Primary School when it opened in September 2004. He was instrumental in the construction and funding project of Gatton and Orchard School. Sir Iqbal has over 40 years of experience in accounting and business. He takes a keen interest in community engagement programmes and is much respected within the community.
